Malcolm Surridge (Born in 1952) comes from a long line of artists and her ancestry can be traced back to Wilson Richard, who was a well-known English “romantic” painter of the 18th century. He studied at the Wimbledon School of Art and the City of London Polytechnic before embarking on a career as freelance illustrator and artist. In addition to his book-jacket illustrations, he has produced work for films, museums and television, and has painted murals for many commercial companies and more recently, as a Lecturer in Art and Design. His first love, however, has always been landscape painting. He skillfully captures the effects of atmosphere and lighting, and this has enabled him to turn simple objects into the magical images that viewers appreciate, always with the intention to convey the very essence of his subjects, rather than just merely state the obvious.
His works have been exhibited in various galleries in the South East and in London. He creates vibrant, bright pastel paintings that focus on English and Mediterranean themes. He enjoys using atmospheric effects, intense color, lighting and texture to bring perfect balance in his art. Surridge creates art that appeal to the emotions of his viewers. He wants his viewers to feel as if they are part of the compositions. That’s why the demand for his art is high and is ever growing. He has attracted a large number of very loyal fans worldwide and they are always on the lookout for his new pieces of art.
