James O'Mara is a photographic artist who began his career as a painter and sculpture. He has received national recognition through several group and one man shows across Canada including The National Gallery of Canada, The Vancouver Art Gallery, The University of British Columbia, the Waddington Galleries of Montreal, and The University of Victoria. O’Mara has been working as a portrait, travel, and fashion photographer for several years and his images appear in publications throughout the world including The Globe & Mail, Elle, Mirabella, International Wine & Spirits, Billboard, Duomo, and Vogue. O'Mara’s personal photographic expression that are represented through solo shows, includes "The Region of Campania and City of Naples, Italy Photographic Essays," which was shown in Vancouver, Canada at Buschlen Mowatt Gallery and "Italian Wine Landscapes" which was shown in Siena, Italy at the Fortezza Medicea.
In 1998, he participated in a group exhibition at the Guild Hall in London, England entitled "Montalcino e la Val D'Orcia". O'Mara is represented through O'Mara & Ryan, which is his own company. International clients in Asia, Canada, Europe, and the United States include Warner Records, Northwestern Aircraft, HCL Kaspar Roth, RCA Records, Enoteca Italian, A & M Records, and Levi Strauss & Co. O'Mara has received many international creative honors including the Print Annual Advertising Award, the New York Art Directors Award, and the Award of Excellence for Design from Communication Arts, Graphics and Applied Arts. His documentary film work has been recognized by the Atlanta, United States Television and Columbus Film Festivals among others.
