Rick Filler (Born in 1951) was born in Montreal, Canada. He’s a graduate of Sir George Williams University. After his graduation in 1972, he went on to manage an art gallery in Ottawa for eleven years. Filler also guided photography tours to remote wilderness areas in Canada. His passion for photographic imagery started at a young age and is matched by his passion for gardening and flowers. He tries to look at the unusual in the every day and always continues to be fascinated by nature. Filler began gardening at the age of 5 when his father gave him a small space in the garden and let him choose seeds from a seed basket. In fact, many of his flower subjects are grown in his own backyard garden. He now lives and works in Ottawa and gets pleasure in photographing the things that he believes have value – the things that he hopes will be preserved.
Filler and his brother began a commercial photographic studio in serving customers such as Capital Records, Sun Oil, Gulf Oil and RCA. His mixed media panels are on display in Ottawa, Ontario at Koyman Galleries. After working for 8 years with his brother, they decided to take a different direction. Filler opened a gallery devoted exclusively to graphics and prints, which kept him involved in fine art for over 10 years. Interacting with so many other artists and their artwork on a continual basis has been a wonderful education to Filler and has strongly influenced his work.
