Born in Tubingen, Germany, Christa Kieffer is a professional artist who works primarily in oil on canvas. As a child, Christa’s earliest memories are of painting and filling any open space with images. A sensitive kindergarten teacher recognized her potential and provided her with a quiet place to paint and draw. She studied extensively throughout Europe then moved to the U.S. to attend the Art Center College of Design in Los Angeles. She often used glazes to create a luminous feel and look to her paintings. The artist traveled to Paris frequently, and walked the boulevards photographing the enchantment of a city soaked in the memories and mystery of a glorious past. Her paintings depict the city as playground at a point in time when there seems to be the perfect balance of leisure and excitement, tranquility and movement, combined with small pleasures in the midst of architectural splendor.
After she won the 1st prize in the Society of Illustrators competition, she was awarded a fellowship to complete her Masters of Fine Arts degree, and after graduation she went on to teach a special class for gifted high school students. She received numerous commissions from various companies, including Digitek Corporation, Caspari, Simon and Schuster, the Royal Mail of England, the NFL and Portal Publication. She later decided to devote all of her efforts to easel painting. She draws on her own European experiences as she explores what she refers to as a romantic and exciting time. She gets great pleasure out of capturing the magical hour at dusk. Kieffer is co-founder of Gallery Route One.
