Sam Dixon was born in Wichita Falls Texas. His childhood was spent in New York and New Jersey. He grew up in an Air Force family, and had to move to two different bases before he turned 6. Growing in such a family has served him well throughout his life because it’s easy for him to make friends and fit in. Dixon’s family lived in Suitland, Maryland at Andrews Air Force base before relocating to the Harlem Renaissance’s home and the Met. This is where his fascination with art started. While in New York his parents made it a point to expose him a lot. They kept him busy all the time. From his perception as a child, he thought he was from a wealthy family. Dixon just found himself becoming an artist; he never made a conscious decision to become one. He graduated from Suitland Senior High School and then proceeded to Prince George's County College, where trained as an artist.
He took every art class he could, working with Maryland artists Michael Carr and Joe Mayer. Even though his art education was rich, Dixon was not fully satisfied; he wishes that the university had offered a class on the business of art. He has developed a healthy competitive drive over the years and knows that galleries don’t take pieces of art that don’t sell. His art can be found in leading galleries such as Bendann Gallery in Towson, Maryland, Weatherburn Gallery in Naples, Florida, Canton Gallery in Baltimore Gallery, Broadway Gallery in Fairfax, and Main Street Gallery in Annapolis.
