Pamela Gatens (Born 1953) was born in Dallas, Texas. She comes from an artistic family and so she loved art from a very tender age. Her mother was an expert seamstress while her father was a professional photographer. While still in high school, Pamela began working in graphic arts, and she enjoyed typography and graphic design as a career until 2002 when she moved to West Virginia. In 2004, she joined Greenbrier Artists at Carnegie Hall in Lewisburg and started working in watercolor and acrylic. She’s now a creative painter and entertaining teacher. Pamela is also a Signature Member of the West Virginia Watercolor Society and a member of The American Impressionist Society. The artist is represented by online with Carleton Varney, Tamarack in Beckley, WV, The Greenbrier Hotel & Resort, and The Art Store in Charleston, WV. Pamela paints on daily basis, and when not painting, is studying, gazing or dreaming about painting.
The artist feels that painting on canvas is all about problem solving, freedom and color – she thoroughly enjoys the abstract structure of all paintings. To Pamela, the beginning a piece of art is the most exciting part. No other activity gives her the fulfillment that painting does for her. Her colorful paintings come from the true happiness she feels in front of the easel. She focuses on layering and brushwork in order to express her love of color. The artist finds inspiration in everything from a smiling cat to beautiful flowers. Nothing makes her happier than painting, and her passion for art is so great.
