Jorge R. Gutierrez (Born in 1975) was born in Mexico. He’s an animator, writer & director, painter, who created the multiple Annie and Emmy Award-winning animated television series for Nickelodeon. He was raised in Tijuana, and has completed various cartoons, films, paintings and illustrations exploring his love affair with Mexican folk and pop culture. He attended the California Institute of the Arts, where he received his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree and Master of Fine Arts degree in Experimental Animation under Engel Jules. While at the university, he created the three dimensional short Carmelo, which enabled him to win the Student Emmy Award in animation in 2001 and was screened at many festivals around the world. In 2000, he worked under Maurice Noble, an animation legend; and in 2001, Gutierrez began creating Jorge Gutierrez’ El Macho.
This is an animated web series for Sony Pictures. He has also done character design for numerous animated series. As a writer, Gutierrez has worked on Maya & Miguel by Scholastic, as well as Brandy and Mr. Whiskers by Disney. He won two Annie Awards and one Emmy working on El Tigre. Gutierrez also created some of the sketches in Mad by Cartoon Network. Just recently, he directed and co-wrote the animated feature “The Book of Life” for 20th Century Fox and Reel FX. This film was released in 2014, October. In 2014, Gutierrez earned his 1st Golden Globe Award nomination for Best Animated Feature Film. Gutierrez has designed many characters, along with his wife Equihua Sandra.
