Phyllis Adams was born in Boston. She was one of nine children in her family. She lived most of her life in New England. Phyllis grew up in Westport, MA and has spent most of her life in and around the Southcoast area. Even though her interest and passion has always been in art her career took a different path. For ten years, she worked at Lotus Corporation and IBM in Cambridge as a computer software manager and started a digital video editing system, the 1st quality engineering lab for Media 100. She worked there for many years and after retiring, she found that the urge to paint was still strong and so embarked on what she calls her '3rd life.' She now spends much of her energy painting mostly in oils and acrylics. She also spends time studying other artist present and past and taking selective classes and workshops and seminars.
She has received numerous Awards including 1st Place, at twelfth Annual Little Compton Summer Art Show, Molly Luce Burroughs Award of Excellence, All Cape Cod Show, Cape Cod Art Association, MA Joanne F. Regan Award for Composition, Barnstable, MA Betty Burroughs Woodhouse Award of Excellence, MA 2nd Place, North Rivers Arts Society, Marshfield, Interpretation of Light, Cape Cod Art Association, Barnstable, 8th Annual Little Compton Summer Art Show, among others. Phyllis enjoys creating different kinds of art. She paints for an inner need for satisfaction not for glory or fame. She utilizes several mediums of paint in each composition in order to achieve desired results.
