Barbara Jeffords was raised in a picturesque little town in southern Indiana. She began painting in 1992 and sold her first piece that same year. Barbara had always enjoyed art but she had never looked at it as a business or a career until that time. She was born in an artistic family. Her father was an artist as well, but he did it only for enjoyment and gave his work away to friends at no charge. Barbara’s art education came from her father, who taught her the techniques of painting and drawing – she learned to love painting and drawing by watching her father. Drawing inspiration from her small town upbringing, the young artist became so passionate with art, and realized she could not exchange art with anything else. Today her paintings are reflections of the heartland of America, inviting the viewer to travel back to a more peaceful and simpler time.
She currently resides in South Carolina. Her art reflects the skills of the self-trained artist working in the early decades of the United States roughly from 1776 to 1820. During that time, a family that wanted to decorate their home could commission silhouettes of their loved ones, murals, portraits, or landscapes painted by such roving artists like Rufus Porter. Barbara sells both her mechanical reproductions and original paintings, framing, printing, shipping and selling them to both retail and wholesale outlets – and in some cases, to individuals. She also licenses wallpaper and coasters products. She’s affiliated to Apple Jack Art and Heart of America.
