Andy Mumford is a fine art, travel and landscape photographer based in Lisbon. He also teaches photography through workshops (mainly one-to-one) and is the author of Photographing Burma. Mumford also shoots some weddings each year, and has been able to serve clients from all over the world. The photographer grew up in the United Kingdom. He loved nature and travel, but his love of photography developed much later. That was after he realized that he needed to take better and beautiful pictures of the places he visited rather than just snapshot records. His first digital camera was bought 10 2006 and it got him really fascinated by both the technique and the art of making images. Currently, whenever Mumford travels, he anticipates capturing the spirit and feel of the people and the places they inhabit. Mumford is inspired by interacting with new cultures and by visiting new countries.
He gets inspiration from the people, the food, the buzz of the cities, the landscapes, and when he’s not taking pictures or out traveling, the photographer can be found at home planning the “next trip” with his wife. When he first started with photography, he couldn’t wait to buy his first digital camera (DSLR). After that, he graduated to a full frame DSLR. This is because he was convinced that it was the only way he could take professional images. The photographer spent several years carrying heavy lenses and camera bodies in his backpack, climbing with them up the mountains or putting them in the luggage compartment of planes. He later on, through a workshop, discovered small cameras and has been using them since then.
