Karen Hollingsworth (Born 1955) loves to create paintings that evoke a sense of the familiar. She likes to blend a glimpse of the ocean through an open window with the common objects of everyday life placed within the interior of a room. She intends that her windowscapes should provide the viewer with a sense of wellbeing and solitude. For her, a painting is successful, if she wishes he was there. A comfortable world bathed in cool breezes from the sea, and sunlight. Karen obtained her Associate Degree from DeKalb College, and also studied Drawing and Painting at the Atlanta College of Art, and Portraiture Study and Nancy Honea. Karen says that to become a painter, it feels like it took her a long time, down a winding road. And along the road there were many detours.
She became a nurse in her early twenties which took her down a different path for many years. But she believes that there were experience’s she had as a nurse that have helped her become a better person, as well as a better painter. When she finally decided to pursue art as a career, her first ambition was to paint portraits. Although she feels that she attained success in this area, she realizes that she sometimes enjoyed painting the people, as much as the backgrounds. This led her to paint what she’s doing now - WindowScapes and RoomScapes. Her life as an artist is wonderful, and very fulfilling. She looks to her next painting, and of course the future.
