Li Bo (Born 1982) was born in Beijing, China. In 2006, he graduated Department of Murals of the Central Academy Fine Art in Beijing. His art is primarily based on what he sources from the Internet. He says that the internet is very important to young people these days – not least to Li Bo himself. All his images are appropriated from the internet and reassembled in a systematic way. Li Bo paints with meticulous realism. He resizes the images to make them have he same heights, and then lines them against a colorless background. This results in a simultaneous free disorientation and association. As he groups together images with no context but each other, they seem to be part of a secret code, challenging people to invent or identify the connections between them. Cultural background plays a big role in his art: most of his works include at least an allusion to Chinese current events or history.
He has received many awards including Rising Star award, Basel, Sweden, Central Academy of Fine Arts Graduation Exhibition (first prize), Pierre Cardin Art Centre, Paris, France (Best Foreign Artist award), and Central Academy of Fine Arts (School of Light' Art Heritage Award), just to mention but a few. Li Bo has participated in both solo and group exhibitions some of which are Passing through, Art Basel 39, Basel, Flesh in Revolution, Solo show at Olyvia Oriental, London, Starting Now, Beijing Art Now Gallery Beijing, Viva Lolita, Maddox arts Gallery, London, J Chen Gallery, Taiwan, Art Basel Miami Beach, Miami, Olivia Oriental, London, Art Taipei, Taipei International Art Exposition, Taiwan, Beijing 2011 Love Trace, Singapore, Liada Gallery.
