Julie Hawkins is a Canadian painter with a passion for vibrant colors and bold statements. She is based in Woodstock, Ontario. Julie obtained a bachelors degree in Interior Design from Humber College in Toronto. She practiced design for more than years then left the profession feeling the creative satisfaction was lost in long drawn out projects. While Julie has always had creativity running through her veins, she kept it well hidden until finally, after much urging from family and friends she started showing her art to the world. Painting quickly turned into a full time job, and she started off with a large commission of fifteen pieces for an upscale London health facility. Julie’s intermingling of texture, pattern, and shape dances across the canvas transforming the spaces they are in.
All her works are named after song lyrics or titles because music is a large part of her painting process. Her abstract paintings can be found in various corporate and private collections throughout the world. Her work has been featured in exhibitions across Vancouver, Toronto, and Ottawa, as well as New York City and Los Angeles. People often tell her that her paintings make them happy. But Julie doesn’t think she’s always the bubbly happy person they expect her to be. However, the act of painting brings her great joy. She likes to think of art as a language that speaks to people, just like music. She says that there is a magic in Abstract Expressionism that parallels that magic in music. Julie is so thankful for the talented musicians who inspire her every day.
