Walt Johnston (Born in 1932) is a painter who is active and lives in District Of Columbia. He’s also a lithographer. Whether a quiet corner of countryside of America shimmering in soft sunset or flowers immersed in sunlight, the subject makes no difference, his art always has the same high quality. To him the physical scene only acts as a vehicle that transports the viewers into the world of painted emotion so the viewers can dream and wander. As he says of the speedy world around us that all the sounds end in silence which never dies. He tries to paint that silence. Tranquility...... inner peace... gentle memory, all combine in a reality that’s not easy to understand and goes beyond mere accuracy. Johnston says "the ultimate abstraction is reality after all."
Over the years his work has been included in juried exhibitions, where he has won many prizes frequently: Butler Institute of American Art, the National Academy of Design, Audubon Artists, Carnegie Institute, Boston Printmakers and many others, including 3 purchase awards that he received from the state of New Mexico. His art stands out among the works of other artists and he’s represented in major private and public collections in the country and abroad. His art has found its way into many galleries and collections because his style can be recognized by his funny-side-of-life humor mixed with his fine sense of detail. Johnston has been on top of the game with his unique style that makes his art to be easily recognizable.
