Carolyn Mock is an Oklahoma-based artist who has been painting wildlife for many years. Her work can be seen in corporate and private collection throughout the world. She continues to gain recognition and win awards. Carolyn has always worked in oil because of its creamy feel. The slow drying times of oils allow her the opportunity to work and blend the colors as the painting evolves. Her choice of wildlife grew out of a firm belief that nature, as well as everything in it, has the right to exist. This accounts for her realism style. Through her paintings, she works to show the dignity of each individual animal and the awe she experiences as she paints.
Carolyn feels humans are the sum total of their experiences. The experiences shape and influence what human beings are – so it is with her art. She paints what interests her and that’s the natural world – it makes no difference whether it’s a cowboy doing his job, a sunset, or God’s creation. Carolyn hopes her art will give people pleasure and awaken feelings to help them identify with some element in her paintings. Concerning her art, she says that she’s influenced by both old and contemporary masters. Her studies have taken her on a wonderful journey, and if she has to choose what she wants to do again, she would still choose to be an artist. Carolyn uses her art to communicate to her viewers the value of wildlife. She believes it’s only through art that people can realize the beauty and value of nature.
