Larry Hunter Wall Art

Larry Hunter is a child of the 1950s and 1960s. He was born in Vancouver, British Columbia where he also grew up and attended the Vancouver School of Art. Hunter is a self-taught freelance illustrator, artist, muralist and designer. He says that in his next life he thinks he’ll try being an architect because architectural renderings are one of his passions. Much of Hunter’s work reflects design cues from the Mid-Century. He likes to work a little mid-century into everything he does. He opened his first studio in 1980. Computer technology advancements allowed him to move away from the Greater Vancouver area and in 1995 he relocated with his wife and children to the South Okanagan Valley near the popular resort town of Penticton. His work covers a broad range of media and styles but visual “impact” is really the goal of most his commercial art applications, especially for mural work, one of his specialties.

Hunter believes that contrast, composition, and color are what will create an attractive piece and set a good mural apart from the rest. His passion for design and Architecture has led him to another favorite pursuit; that of architectural illustration. As with his mural work, in architectural illustration, he also uses an impressionist style which is slightly loose and evokes an emotional impact but maintains a strong sense of realism through shadow, light and color. He spent the first twenty years of his career perfecting traditional illustration skills in media such as watercolor and airbrush. The disciplines and skills learned over those years have served him well in the computer age.
