Patricia Maccarthy Wall Art

Patricia MacCarthy is a greetings card and children's book illustrator. She graduated with a BA Honours Degree in Graphic Design from Brighton Art College in 1980 and since then she has created hundreds of cards and many children's books. She lives by the sea in Sussex with her two young sons, James and Laurie, and her husband, John Avon. Since graduation, Patricia has worked as an Illustrator for Licensed Products, Prints, Posters, Children’s Books, Greeting Cards, and Private Commissions. She is now an author too. Patricia sells and exhibits original artworks through the Langham Gallery, London, Bloomsbury. She uses a remarkably wide range of materials for her artwork from watercolours and acrylics to batik on silk and collage, as well as other mediums. She has collaborated with Margaret Mahy, the New Zealand author on five picture books including 17 Kings and 42 Elephants which won the New York Times Best Illustrated Book of the Year.

Over the years Patricia has enjoyed working with Children’s Book Publishers such as Templar Books, Frances Lincoln, Random House, Hamish Hamilton, Macmillan, Oxford University Press, Little Tiger Press, and Hinkler. Her recent picture book ‘Moon Forest’, published by Frances Lincoln, was nominated for The CILIP Kate Greenaway Medal for 2014. Posters of her work have been produced by King & McGaw, Athena International, and The Poster Shop. As her illustration work evolves, it is the fascination of nature that has become her greatest inspiration. It is through her art works that she expresses her feelings to her viewers. She has an evolving bank of stand-alones and concepts in development for New Picture Book Series’, as well as for new and Progressive Greeting Card ranges.
