Artist Alaagy was born in a primitive farming community in Northern Ghana, near the Burkina Faso border. Alaagy received a Certificate in Arts and Design from the Ghanatta College of Art. He then proceeded to Ankle College of Art in Accra, Ghana from where graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree, he then moved to California in 2001 to become an artist-in-residence for DrawBridge. As a child, he experienced abuse and many hardships and was eventually raised by his grandmother. Because of these hardships, Alaagy is able to connect with the DrawBridge children in meaningful and natural ways. His paintings have been featured in group and solo exhibitions, in museums and galleries in Africa and the United States, including the National Museum and Monument Board of Ghana in Accra; the De Young Museum in San Francisco; the Sergeant Johnson Gallery in San Francisco and Pro Arts Gallery in Oakland, California.
He has received public and corporate commissions including those sponsored by the Good Shepherd Services Center in New York City; the Marin Arts Council in San Rafael, California; Hamilton Family Centers in San Francisco and Days Inn in San Rafael, California. Alaagy received a Certificate in Arts and Design from the Ghanatta College of Art and a Bachelor of Arts degree from the Ankle College of Art in Accra, Ghana. During the past few years he has collaborated with DrawBridge children to create murals in New York City and at six San Francisco Bay Area shelters in partnership with Good Shepherd Services. He currently leads one of the 30 weekly art groups of DrawBridge.
