Ray Pelley Wall Art

Ray Pelley has been working as an artist and living in the Pacific Northwest since 1979. His current art focuses on still lifes of admired objects that define our current culture. He received his degree in Fine Art from Illinois State University where he studied both printmaking and painting. He is currently represented in Kirkland, Washington by the Gunnar Nordstrom Gallery. After graduation Pelley moved to Boston, Massachusetts where he worked as a graphic artist. He also began his work on a series of limited edition serigraphs. When Pelley visited the Northwest, he got inspired by the beauty of the area that he decided to move to Seattle, Washington. He began selling his original serigraph prints at juried art shows and galleries throughout Washington State as well as at the Pike Place Market. Eventually Pelley’s artistic efforts turned to oil painting.

The artist fell in love with oils claiming that they allow for a wide variety of styles and effects. Always having been drawn to realism, he says that oils allowed him to pursue a realistic image far better than the graphic nature of screen-printing. Pelley has lived in Massachusetts and Illinois, Tennessee before settling in Washington State. In his art there’s lushness in both color and texture that oils provide, which, give a depth to the image when combined with their ability to be manipulated. This ability can rarely be achieved in other mediums. His art found a willing audience and made her to start exhibiting her work in Washington at various juried shows.
