Sparrow Art

Sparrow art is a unique category of natural bird artwork that has been appreciated by modern enthusiasts ever since ancient times. These works are more graphic in execution than their counterparts because of their small bodies and iconic appearance. However, each of these works is sensitive depictions of natural bird artwork.

Modern artists have reinvented this category of art by combining other influences into it. Along with Asian artwork, there are influences from nearly every culture. Natural bird art like 'Little Sparrow, PI. T35' by Marc Catesby combine Asian and Persian influences in his work. Likewise, many of the modern representations of sparrows that are developed for decorative purposes contain influences from several different cultures.

As the harbinger of spring, sparrow paintings are generally meant as inspirational works. Sparrows are meant to symbolize the hope and new beginnings that come from spring. Sparrow art such as 'Paisley Sparrow' and 'Damask Sparrow' by Norman Wyatt are pop art representations of this subject, but still contain the same sense of new life that these works symbolize.
